Job Description

The Maintenance Technician, Level I, Semi-skilled Trades position is responsible for general maintenance and repair of physical plant buildings, equipment, and grounds maintenance.  This position will provide semi-skilled trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, minor electrical and HVAC to the Maintenance Supervisor.  The Maintenance Technician, Level I, Semi-skilled Trades will also perform general preventive maintenance inspection, service, and repair of equipment and systems as assigned, including minor vehicle maintenance and assisting the vehicle mechanic when necessary.  The position provides the above mentioned services to the Maintenance Supervisor as assigned for various rotating shift assignments to suit the business needs of the college, up to and including, first shift, second shift, weekend shift and holidays.

Education and experience - High school diploma supplemented with 3 years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance, repair and alteration of buildings, grounds and facilities; completion of trade school highly desirable; knowledge of methods and techniques of carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and landscaping; experience in the operation and routine servicing of institutional or industrial heating, air conditioning, electrical alarm, ventilating, sprinkler, and plumbing systems; ability to read, write, and follow instructions; knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety procedures; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Skills and abilities - Read, understand, and follow rules and procedures; follow oral and written directions; read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and sketches; safely and effectively operate tools and equipment used in the maintenance of buildings and grounds; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; know and apply safety codes and regulations; keep simple records and reports; lift heavy items and perform strenuous manual tasks for long periods of time; work independently in the absence of detailed instructions; must possess basic computer skills.

Additional requirement - Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
